Comprises letter, documents and photographs relating to Staff Nurse Ethel Mary Hargreave's services as a member of QAIMNS (Queen Alexandra's Imperial Military Nursing Service) during World War One. Five photographs include portrait of Effie, three views of nurses and soldiers, and one view of hospital ship "St. Andrew". Also, letter 6 June [no year], to Effie from Caterina Ken-Lawson; two character references 1915 and 1917; a testimonial letter; official documents connected with her passage to Melbourne July-November 1918 on ship "Niagra"; document re her service as a Staff Nurse with the Imperial Forces 1915; and a commemorative scroll re the war service of Private Ernest Walter Hargreave, MM, of the 23rd Battalion (died of wounds 2 June 1918). Also, diary written by Gunner Allan Stephen Cobb, VX16709, 2/2nd Battalion, A.I.F. during World War Two. Diary has no dates, and contains an account of retreat from Greece to Crete in 1941. Diary is accompanied by a record of Service book 1940-1944; booklet entitled "Army rehabilitation : advice to Army personnel awaiting discharge" (Melbourne : Brown, Prior, Anderson, 1945); and letter to "Mother and James" (Mr and Mrs J.W. Stirling of Caulfield) from "Ken" (Flight Officer W.K. Church, RAAF, in the Middle East), 14 May 1944. Also, letter written by Elfrida Shapley, 24 June 1955, (who served with Effie during World War One) to Effie's daughter Betty Cobb on the occasion of her mother's death.
